PERFORMANCE ACADEMY

“We take what’s on the page and we put it on the stage!”

Barton Court Studios has its own Performance Academy which gives students the chance

to be part of a team of talented youngsters whilst improving their singing and acting skills.

We put together an original show with an entirely unique concept for half of the year, then for the other half we put together ‘Musical Madness’, our very own variety show.

The Academy is run by director Cassie Lawrence and choreographer Samantha Bolter, supported by a team of professional tutors including vocal and acting coaches.

When is it?  Rehearsals are on Sundays between 10am & 4pm and for lead roles there is a weekday evening rehearsal.

Where do you rehearse? Barton Court Studios

Where do you perform? We perform in a variety of exciting venues. In 2017 we did a full show at the New Forest Arts Centre in New Milton; Byron Road Christmas Lights Switch On; and New Milton Christmas Festival.

Do I have to audition? To be part of our productions we ask for you to come in and sing us a song, alternatively if you are an actor/actress a monologue in a small private audition.

Do I need to read music? Not at all. We learn everything by ear (listening and repeating back until it sinks in) and just read lyrics when we need to.

What’s the age range? 5 – 21! Young kids must be able to read enough to follow lyrics and lines.

What do you perform? Our shows are original productions, written by the team at Barton Court Studios. Shows include singing, dancing and acting. We perform songs from musicals and the latest pop songs.

How much is it? We charge a set fee per production which includes the weekly rehearsals, costumes, venue hire and professional tutors. Fees vary slightly depending on the show. Ask us for more details about this term’s production.

Who are the tutors? Cassie is director of Performance Academy with Samantha Bolter taking care of the dancing. Other tutors come on board as we get close to the production to help with acting and costumes etc.

What is your next show? Our next show is ‘The Sound of Music Meets Sister Act’, once again an entirely original concept put together ourselves. The performances are taking place on the 6th and 7th of July at The New Milton Memorial Centre. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION
